NorthWest Pride Festival 2011: Overview

From the festival launch night on the 10th August, until Sunday 14th, Northwest Pride Festival aims to offer events for all tastes and age-groups.

This year we are organising art exhibitions, club nights, workshops, community street festivals… the list goes on! This year we’ve added an extra element with a dedicated set of Arts & Cultural events including the 2nd Annual Northwest Pride multimedia arts exhibition. For an up-to-date agenda of what’s on this year be sure to keep checking back to the Events section of the website.

Queer Night in Berlin

To launch us off Over the Rainbow is Sligo’s premier LGBT orientated Theatre Group and will be hosting a 1930s Style Cabaret night with friends to launch the festival.

Come and enjoy the seedy glamour of late night Cabaret in Queerest Berlin. Dress up to the nines and become part of the action!

There will also be prizes for best dressed punter given out on the night. Poetry, dance and drama to delight the senses! If you’d like to take part contact Over The Rainbow for details.

Our flagship event is the NorthWest Pride Parade itself, which takes place on the weekend of the 13th of August. Last year we had a wonderful treat with guided performances by Eddie McGuinness and BeLonG To Youth Services which was a wonderful treat for everyone. Gathering at Sligo City Hall again the Parade will kick off at around 12.00pm and be returning at 3.30pm.

In previous years, we had wonderfully, positive exposure in both regional and national media agencies including print and radio media. One such event that received a lot of support and recognition in the media was Northwest Pride’s Straight but not Narrow. We will be launching this campaign again this year.

Straight but not Narrow

Once again, we will be engaging with media agencies to strategically maximise and optimise the exposure of Northwest Pride. This year even greater numbers are expected at this years’ parade, so be sure to come along to this fantastic event.

Hope you all have a very happy and joyful Pride!!
